Questions Or Answers? (The Unanswered Question)

Angela Cheng Gr. 7

Questions, inquiries, both derive from one thing; the curious mind of a human being. “Sentence worded or expressed so as to obtain information”. That is the dictionary definition of the word “question”. But is it accurate? For every answer, there is a question, but for every question, is there an answer?

Ever since mankind arrived on this earth, they have asked many questions, and by asking questions, have solved many of the world’s toughest mysteries. From early caveman’s discovery of tools to modern man’s breakthrough on technology, questions have helped us grow. Questions are what created us, not the answers. Without questions, we’d fall apart.

Then comes an unanswered question, something the human mind cannot comprehend, a secret to our civilization. The past generations have answered many questions that were unanswered many centuries before. Now there are new questions that have puzzled even the best scientists. When a new concept is formed, scientists work hard, but no matter what they do, there is never an answer.

The unanswered question, what does that remind you of? Life beyond the stars, the future, maybe even our afterlife? To me, the one unanswered question is why humans have to understand everything around them. Why don’t animals have to find answers to everything? Why us? From the very moment we were born, to when we finally die, we have asked and been asked questions. It is not something that we can avoid; every human on this earth had and still will have questions to ask.

Our brains, the most complex organ in our body, and the starting point of every question in the world, have helped us in many ways, but have held us back as well. Birds, fish, they’re all part of our world, yet they’re in a world of their own. They are free; while we’re trapped in a prison we created for ourselves, trapped in a world of questions. This prison is different from all others. There is no key, no way to escape. We might think that we are the most intelligent animals in the natural world. Maybe we are, but no matter what we do, we are limited to existing in the world of questions.

Is it our unique personality that drives us to finding all the answers of the world? Or is it a natural instinct? Whatever the reason, humans will always have the urge to know everything around them, to solve all of the mysteries in our world. It’s the way we were created. No matter what the time is, whether it’s 1807, 2008 or even 3090, there will always be questions. Questions are a part of us, we ask them everyday and the few unanswered questions left in the world are the only obstacles that stop our civilization from understanding everything. But remember, answers are what change, not the questions, and in my opinion, if we solve all of the world’s mysteries, there would be no point in living.
